Original 1990’s, Michael Graves, signed, Postmodern, Memphis Era, ULTRA Chess Set, housed in a distinguished, footed, Two-toned, Solid Maple wood, chessboard topped storage case.

This is the Ultra Chess Set

Chess pieces can be stored, beneath the board, in fitted, lined, slots for each piece.

Each chess piece, uniquely styled, is made of a resin composite, in faux ebony and ivory colors.

The board and pieces are in wonderful condition

The bottom of the board/case is lined in black felt.

Michael Graves (b.1934) was one of the original members/designers of the Internationally acclaimed, Memphis Design Group, established in 1985 in Milan, Italy.

Graves also was a member of the New York Five, a noted American architect, designer and professor at Princeton University for 4 decades.

Graves worked along side of, and in co-collaboration with the now considered, most iconic designers of this 1980s

The group included Ettore Sottsass, Peter Shire, and Nathalie du Pasquier and many others.

Their ground breaking designs, once dismissed by the art world, are now highly collectible, fetching record breaking prices.
