Designed by famous french actor Alain Delon in 1970’s for Maison Jansen collection, this stunning coffee table with Black Marquina marble top made out of one slab with brass and chrome tapered legs. Whereas the polished marble is highlighted by the dramatic contrast between the white veining in the black background, the legs show a classic interpretation of Art Deco inspiration with their chrome and brass tiered combination. Signed at the bottom.
“If I weren’t involved in films, I wish I were an architect,” wrote Alain Delon. The year was 1975 and the French actor was at the Salone del Mobile in Milan presenting his furniture line.
Founded in 1880 by Dutch designer Jean-Henri Jansen (1854-1928), Paris-based design firm Maison Jansen was one of the most well-known and influential interior decorating houses of the 20th century, patronized by royalty, socialites, leaders of nations recognized also as one of the first global design companies. By the 1930s, Maison Jansen’s five-story Paris atelier employed over 700 highly skilled artisans and many famous designers, including Pierre Delbée, Carlos Ortiz-Cabrera, Francis Chaillou, Serge Robin, Henri Samuel and many more.
Maison Jansen closed its doors in 1989 and it is no surprise that Maison Jansen pieces are very sought after by collectors and interior designers.
