The artist uses two conceptual constructs simultaneously in this painting.
First the great sense of depth and perspective experienced when standing at the edge of a forest and looking down a line of adjacent trees seemingly placed in random order.
Second, the subliminal suggestion of transcendental elevation that viewing experience conveys to the viewer’s consciousness. To achieve this, Gruber placed rows of towering (beech?) trees—leaning towards each along the length of the river in the forest—in a consistent pattern, diminishing the size of the tree from foreground to rear ground as a means of enhancing the illusion of space and depth.
To elevate the viewing experience to a transcendental level, Gruber deployed light in the top background that is reflected in the water, imbuing a sense of motion
The movement of the stream draws the viewer into the painting that has a depth perception and perspective. a beautiful landscape painting that has a magnificent reflective quality of the mountains with autumn trees
The work was certainly painted from life, and is signed in the lower left in black paint. The painting comes framed and ready to hang.
